The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is Samsung's ninth-generation Galaxy smartwatch — announced at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, 2026, with general availability from August 7. Samsung directed this generation at internal improvements rather than design: the more efficient Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, a larger battery on both sizes, and a wider set of health features that now includes Vitals, Daily Cardio Load, Heart Health Score, and Fitness Index — all provided without a subscription fee, a direct answer to recovery-focused wearables that put comparable analysis behind a monthly cost.
The Snapdragon Wear Elite (3nm, penta-core: 1× Cortex-A78C @ 2.1GHz + 4× Cortex-A55 @ 1.95GHz, Adreno A622 GPU) delivers 30% better power efficiency over the Watch 8's Exynos W1000 — meaning smoother performance from the same or smaller battery. The 40mm Watch 9 gets the clearest hardware improvement — its 390mAh battery is 65mAh larger than the Watch 8's 325mAh unit, a 20% capacity increase. The 44mm model rises from 435mAh to 445mAh. Both charge at up to 10W wirelessly.
The Galaxy Watch 9 has a design similar to its predecessor with a circular display housed in a squircle-shaped Armor Aluminum 2 case. It is available in two display sizes: 1.34 inches (438×438) and 1.47 inches (480×480). Both variants use a Super AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The display is protected by Sapphire Crystal glass. Always-On display included. The redesigned quick-release 20mm strap mechanism improves band swapping vs the Watch 8.
The Galaxy Watch 9 introduces several new health measurements not present on the Watch 8. Heart Health Score provides a holistic cardiovascular health summary. Daily Cardio Load measures exercise intensity and cumulative cardiovascular strain over time. Fitness Index estimates aerobic fitness level. Hearing Health — a Galaxy Watch first — monitors ambient noise levels and earbud volume exposure, notifying users when exposure reaches potentially harmful levels. Existing sensors cover ECG (Samsung Galaxy phone required), FDA-cleared sleep apnea detection, Blood Pressure Trend (Samsung Galaxy phone required, calibration needed), AGEs/Antioxidant Index, body composition via BIA, SpO2, skin temperature, and 24/7 heart rate monitoring.
One UI 9 Watch based on Wear OS 7 ships out of the box, bringing new first-party watch faces, improved stock apps, and enhancements to the Now Bar. Google Gemini AI — raise wrist to activate. Five guaranteed major Wear OS + One UI Watch upgrades and five years of security updates. Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC (Samsung Pay / Google Wallet), dual-band GPS (BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS). Wi-Fi variant — no LTE, phone required for calls and data. Available in Cream (40mm), Graphite (both), and Silver (44mm) at Dream Technologies T&T.
